More About Mike

Michael Choice is the visionary and active Executive Director and Chef of Save Our Youth Fitness for Life (SOYFFL), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing health, wellness, and fitness services to youth and families. Through his leadership, Michael seeks and secures funding opportunities, develops community relationships and strategic partnerships, and creates programs that promote physical fitness, nutritional growth, and lifelong wellness.

As a chef, Michael uses healthy cooking and nutrition education to help young people and families understand that nutritious meals can be both enjoyable and accessible. Through hands-on cooking experiences, healthy meal preparation, and practical nutrition guidance, he encourages participants to make better food choices and develop habits that support long-term health.

Michael is also a former professional track and field competitor who qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. He currently serves as a certified official with USA Track & Field (USATF).

He brings leadership, discipline, teamwork, and commitment developed through his athletic and culinary careers to SOYFFL’s mission of addressing the alarming rise of obesity among youth, families, and communities.

SOYFFL previously collaborated with the Pittsburg and Mt. Diablo Unified School Districts after-school programs, serving students in grades K–8. Through those After-School Youth Fitness and Track & Field Programs, SOYFFL gave young people the opportunity to participate in group activities, compete with their peers, and learn the fundamentals of fitness, nutrition, healthy cooking, and obesity prevention.

The program is designed to help every child discover their ability to contribute while developing teamwork, focus, personal commitment, and perseverance. Participants are encouraged to finish what they start, do their best, build self-esteem, and learn how to work and play positively with others.

Michael’s leadership reflects SOYFFL’s mission: to decrease the rise of childhood obesity and foster youth development through physical fitness, nutritional education, healthy cooking, active living, and meaningful community partnerships.
